HOTR- (Huntin On The Rock)
Приєднався 12 чер 2009
Huntin On The Rock, Newfies In The Yukon, and Macmillan Monsters series is a continuation of hunting experiences captured on film by myself, Deon Dicks. Huntin on the "Rock" has been a term we local Newfoundlanders are familiar with, it's simply a basic term that describes half of our amazing province Newfoundland, the other half being "the big land" Labrador.
Hunting has been part of my family for as long as I can remember, moose is nothing new to me, I have seen 100's here in this great province I call home but while guiding in the Yukon for nearly 10 years now and seeing the size of these moose I can never explain to you with words, you really have to see them for yourself. However, these videos will give you some insight into just how big they really are.
Enjoy

Newfoundland squid hauler.

A few years ago I posted a couple videos of how we fish squid here in Newfoundland, little did I realize it would create such interest around the world. Since I posted the 2 videos they have received over 162000 views! ua-cam.com/play/PLv5StyySnWH7ddti9Q_Eht0rJF-FXAUSU.html I have received many emails asking about the "Squid Hauler", and most of the emails asking if I would add a video of how a...

This is the kinda hunt that's very rare, they don't always be this easy. It's very good chance it will never happen again. And ironically it happened on April 8th, 2024. It's a perfect case of being in the right place at the right time. Enjoy

After traveling for 46km in search of coyote sign on snowmobile, I had to make a set before dark with or without coyote sign. So thinking that there maybe coyotes in a nearby ridge that was upwind of me I quickly made this set without thinking what if there were coyotes somewhere else in the surrounding area. Enjoy
Yves's Moose Hunt

My friend Boul,"Yves", has been here in NL many times now. His passion and excitement never get old. On this trip, his consideration and kindness really show after he took a lesser bull, because his main goal was for his friend to get a great bull. You can watch the that hunt by clicking this link ua-cam.com/video/WE5oNbwUOQE/v-deo.html

Quantos zangarelhos em cada carretel?
If you are talking about how many jigs are on the last hauler in the video, its about 240.
@@HOTRhuntinontherock em apenas um carretel coloca quantos zangarelhos?
@@HOTRhuntinontherockDo you use 40 jigs per reel?
Show de bola. ...👍👍
Dion really enjoy ALL of your content!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks , thanks so much for watching!
Do you plan hunting trips for Elk out west? I have successfully hunted moose for many years, but I always wanted to try for Elk and/or whitetail and make Deer in the Western provinces/ territories.

Beautiful Plaque, and it makes it more special Because Both the wood and animal are from nature , ,great video , thank you for sharing love your videos ,
Thanks for watching
Big fmale could be hibid , the small one is more the size of a coyote , and old, congs ,
True , thanks for watching!
wow what a chase , But you got him, did you have him checked also to see if he was a hibrid, rater large for a coyote , and seemed heavier boned , your perserverence paid off congs.
Its sent in for study as is all larger coyotes but I did not request for the results to be returned to me. It was big one for sure. And a day I won't soon forget. Thanks again for watching!
awesome Deon, thanks for havving it tested , it lets a lot of people and hunters know that when a coyote looks bigger then normal their is a good reason, cross breeding , so we end up losing more fawns and deer, elk and moose , would not take long to have packs of them around , Hunters and trappers keep them under control . well done , nice trophy.
Thanks for watching!
Wow great Bull awesome hunt , congratulations , a hunt to remember forever .
Yes it sure was! Thanks for watching
Good day new subs here ,, your idea is cool..i learned a lot

What Moose management area were you hunting in?
This zone is only for residents. Thanks for watching!
Dion, do you do dried squid? My buddy from the rock introduced me to it years ago, it's so good but I've never been able to find it commercially.
We have not done the last few years. Don't seem to be a buyer anywhere near us.Thanks for watching
The best game cam video ever.
Thanks for watching, i have a pile more great videos on my channel!!
Did that paddle boarder call you "Poacher"?
Is that what you heard? Thanks for watching?
@@HOTRhuntinontherock You were there. It was a question...
I miss it out the bay, going up across gaze point
You have to repeat that again i don’t understand. Sorry
Great explanation, thanks for your efforts! The only doubt is that so many squid fishing rigs are stored in the roller. Wouldn’t the hooks get caught on the fishing line, causing the line to be unloaded or retrieved abnormally?
That would not be an issue at all our setup right now never tangles so i dont see why it would with my newer style. Thanks for watching
@@HOTRhuntinontherock This is the confusing part. So many hooks and lines are wound on the roller. Is there some trick in the design to ensure that the lines and hooks do not get entangled?
how many yards was the shot , roughly ?
40-45 yards Thanks for watching
dang, thats cool... i wonder if there are squid where we fish in prince rupert on west coast. is there a good better best time of year, time of tide cycle, depth, structure, current? Now Im curious. wanna know more.
Our squid do not show up until at the earliest July and stick around right up to November sometimes. Generally, if squid are in your area you will see them squirting water at the surface as they feed.
This was super cool dude. Never seen anything like it.
Thanks so much for watching!!
Awesome!
Thanks for watching
Thanks for sharing buddy, I hope you're getting a fair price. Probably not, but here's to hoping.
Thanks for watching!
Better be careful with the number of views you get. One thing I’ve learned about governments and innovation is that, “ If it moves, regulate it. If it keeps moving, Tax it. Once it stops moving, subsidize it”. Cool invention.
this is very Cool, i have never seen squid fishing before. gotta love when a plan comes together.
Thanks for watching
Now that is what every squid jigger needs. That is awesome to see how it works. The one idea that I would suggest it to make up a pedestal somehow and attach a chain driven motor where the handle is. Something like a bike chain setup but with chain sprockets and a chain driving it. It shouldn't be hard to figure out there Leon, especially with all your knowledge and ingenuity that you have. Best to use a chain setup and not belts as the belts would slip when they get wet. That would certainly help your arm, shoulder and back for sure. Looking forward to seeing what you bring us next. 🙂
I mentioned in the video there is a hydraulic system hauler, but this manual system is much more exciting and fun.lol. Thanks for watching
I learned something tonight. They say if you learn one thing everyday, when you get old you will be wise. Thank you for today. I will be up there in 4 weeks.
Thanks for watching
Never knew these were a Newfoundland originated design. I grew up on the Avalon seeing & using variations when it came time for trawling season. Thanks for the overview!
I'm not 100% sure if it is a Newfoundland originated design. Thanks for watching.
Just subscribed to your channel and watched the video of the continuous squid hauler. That's a fine rig. One idea to maybe help with the slipping is to add rubber to the face of the blocks that come in contact with the line. The extra friction of the rubber may be just whats needed. I enjoyed the video and look forward to watching more.
Great rig for at the squids. Awesome idea,s newfies come up with ah. First time I actually seen this and I live in nfld. Originally from Labrador. Where we live there's no squids. Haven,t heard of any. Great stuff buddy. Squid juice flying ha,ha.
What a wicked rig great job. One of my best memories with my grandfather is squid jigging with the big reals it was so much fun. Still enjoy jigging them off the warf.
I am in NB I fish squid with a rod/reel from the wharf at night . But this is my first time seeing a squid hauler . I have used a similar rig for mackerel back when we were allowed to catch ‘em for lobster bait
Cool , give it a try! Thanks for watching
now show the world a video on that turr picker, lol. great video.
Thats all over UA-cam. Thanks for watching
